“The Payback Murders: Lawyer August Mapes’ court cases usually involve child custody hearings and family law. When her ex girlfriend refers a friend, Kathleen O’Brien to August, she agrees to at least listen to her concerns. August is pulled into Kathleen’s agoraphobic life and tries to help her find the person sending her stories of possible murders.
The Payback Murders is a moderately predictable read to this avid mystery lover. The plot suffers from the lack of a viable suspect with the ones presented holding no credence and similarly dismissed quickly by August.
Utilizing the 1950’s as a setting is an excellent choice as it provides the characters more compulsion for physical action in obtaining information from the different suspects.
The Payback Murders is a brief and light read when you don’t want to lose yourself too long or deeply into a novel. I received an advanced review copy from Desert Palm Press and I am leaving this review voluntarily.”
